Noite Ilustrada was born in 1928 in the city of Itaúna, in the state of Minas Gerais. His real name was Mario de Souza Marques Filho, but he adopted the artistic name of Noite Ilustrada (Illustrated Night) after working as a graphic designer for a newspaper.
